Jarno moved up one place at the start and held his position, latterly
holding off Montoya until they both pitted at the same time on lap 24. Montoya’s stop was marginally
quicker than Jarno’s and Jarno lost a place. Villeneuve was also able to split Jarno and JPM after a pit stop. Jarno moved up the field after Ralf’s retirement, then gained a place after Mika Hakkinen was forced to retire
when his clutch failed on the last lap. Jarno
finished 4th, behind MS, Montoya and Villeneuve. HHF inadvertently turned off
launch control at the start, then had
to retire after a accident with de
la Rosa on lap 7.

“It was a
tough race but a good result for me and the team. I made a good start up to
fourth but
unfortunately
was closed in by Barrichello and dropped a position. My tyre degradation was pretty high
today and we
weren’t able to keep pace as well as we should. I lost my position during the
first pit stop
which was
frustrating, and in the latter part of the race I struggled because the brakes
were inconsistent.
Coulthard was catching
me at the end, so I had to push very hard to keep him at a distance but also to
keep close to Villeneuve. Although
it’s been a positive weekend, we still need to find ways to improve
the car. I
would like to dedicate my good result to Michele Alboreto. I had the
chance to meet him
socially, and he was a truly lovely person as well as
a great driver. He will be sorely missed, particularly
by those in
motorsport to whom he still gave so much.”

“We come away
from Barcelona with three more points to maintain our point-scoring form in
every race
this year and
also achieve the best result for the team at this circuit. Jarno did a great
job in the race to
finish fourth
and score points for his third race in a row. I don’t think, however, that our
pace was strong
enough today.
We also lost out during Jarno’s first pit stop and need to make improvements in some
areas.”

“The whole team did a really great job in
what was, as we expected, a very tough qualifying. I’m happy with sixth
position on this track because in the past, the team’s performance has not been
very strong in Barcelona. On my quickest run there was some traffic and I
didn’t really get a completely free lap, which is a shame because fifth may
have been possible as the gap from one car to another is so close. I’m confident for tomorrow, as this year the car is proving to be
reliable and very competitive in the races. I hope I’ll have a good start but
it’s going to be a very tough Grand Prix.

In the first session this
morning, Jarno finished 5th fastest with a time of 1:19.827, behind both
Ferraris and both McLarens. HHF was 6th with 1:19.903. In the second session Jarno bettered his earlier

In Friday practice at the
Circuit de Catalunya, DC topped the time tables in both sessions. With new driver aids to
check out, there were a lot of practice starts during the morning. The Jordans
slipped down the time sheets during the course of the day. Jarno finished 8th in
the first session with 1:22.194 and HHF was just behind in 9th
with 1:22.221. In the second session, Jarno increased his best time to 1:21.647, to finish 10th,
but HHF
was unable to better his earlier time, finishing 14th. Jaguar did well
with 2nd and 7th place for Irvine and de la Rosa respectively.

“It was a
routine Friday practice session working on car set-up, although I lost the
morning session due
to a clutch
problem. It was very windy on parts of the track this afternoon which affected
the handling of
the car, so
this could explain why the car doesn’t seem to be that well balanced at the
moment. We’ll
wait and see
what the forecast is for tomorrow, but we have quite a bit of work still to do.
We made some
adjustments to
the electronics software to fine tune the traction control.”

“This is
another circuit I like a lot. The car is well balanced and has performed very
well so far this year,
so we just hope we can prove our potential in this
next race. The high speed corners require good
physical
fitness and makes the circuit quite technical, which is the main reason many
teams test in
Barcelona.”

san marino gp. the race. Jarno got off to another good start
and moved up to third by the first corner, behind Ralf Schumacher and David Coulthard. He maintained that
position before going in for his first pit stop. Rejoining in eighth and later moving up to fifth on his two stop
strategy, Jarno finished the race in that position, ahead of team mate HHF in sixth. Two more well-deserved points for Jarno, one for HHF and three for the Jordan
team. The GP was won by Ralf, with DC second, Barrichello third and Mika Hakkinen fourth.

“This was a
good result and I am particularly happy since this is the first time I have
finished
a race here in Imola. It is excellent to have scored
points for the second race in a row and
for the team
to have scored points in four out of four races. I had a good start and made it
up to third by
the first corner where I stayed for twenty laps. I was having a great race and
keeping a steady pace for the first ten laps but was
then actually pulling away from Mika.
Unfortunately,
after my first pit stop I had a problem with a bad set of tyres which made me
struggle. Montoya caught me
after his pit stop and was able to accelerate faster than me
and brake
later. With my next set of tyres I could keep the pace though. It’s a shame as
I
could possibly have had a podium, but I
had a great race”.
Eddie Jordan:
“It is great
to earn points again and see both drivers finishing in the top six. They both
did an
excellent job.
The race was pretty uneventful for us – simply a solid performance which
showed that
our car is a big step forward from last year’s in terms of reliability. But
today
shows again
that this is going to be a tough season and we have more work to do to catch
up with the front runners. A ‘big hand’
to Ralf as well for his first victory.”

“I am really
happy to be on the third row of the grid. It was very exciting and reminded me
of the
feeling I had
when I put in a good lap at the end of Monaco’s qualifying session last year. I
pushed
hard to get
the best out of the car and myself. The car was very competitive and well balanced
and I
believe we can
work well with this car to develop it even further throughout the season. I
felt confident
we would be
able to do well in either the wet or dry but the important thing for me was to
keep calm.
In the wet
this morning I was quick, but didn’t push as hard during the second session as
we were
waiting for
the track to dry. During qualifying the track got better and better and the
team and I made
a smart choice
to wait until the last few minutes for my final run. Let’s hope that tomorrow

the team.”

was blocked by
Marques but it was
good to see Jarno putting such

jarno’s busy schedule.
In between the
Brazilian and San Marino Grands Prix, Jarno Trulli has an action filled schedule.
From
Brazil, he
flew home to Monaco for one day before arriving at Silverstone on Tuesday
morning for a three
day test. Over
the weekend Trulli was able to
spend time in Italy with his family while concentrating on
training, but now it’s back to work with PR activities
arranged for Tuesday 10th. He flies to Kent on
Tuesday
evening ready for an early start on Wednesday morning when the Italian will make
a star
appearance on the 0915 P&O Stena Line ferry return
crossing from Dover to Calais.
Due to board
the ferry at 0840, prior to departure Trulli will meet the Captain on the
bridge before taking
part in a
photo session with the Benson and Hedges Jordan Honda car outside the
Silverstones Sports
Bar on board,
where the Italian will be making his main appearance from 0915.
Trulli will be
available to sign autographs, talk about the team and the season so far during the
outbound
and return
crossings. Other activities include a Pit Stop Challenge for the public, with
the Formula 1 star
presenting a
prize to the winners.
Once docked in
Calais, Trulli will visit
the ferry’s engine room and have lunch aboard, before departing at
1130 for the
return crossing back to Dover where he will again be available for fans to see
in the
Silverstones
Sports Bar.
Trulli’s busy schedule
then sees him fly to Bologne on Wednesday evening for a Drivers’ football
match,
before driving
to Imola for a good night’s sleep to be ready for a day of interviews at the
track on
Thursday.

until 4pm as his race car had not arrived back from Brazil. The weather was
showery but he eventually ran 10 laps
to shake down the car ready for a full days testing tomorrow. Jarno’s best time was
1:25.92, just ahead of Zonta who was also testing for Jordan Honda. Also present today were Villeneuve, Panis, Wurz
and Hakkinen. Villeneuve topped the time sheets
with 1:22.91, then proceeded to crash right at the end of the session.
His car was so badly damaged he is unable to test tomorrow.

brazilian gp. race. congratulations to Jarno on 2pts for himself and for the team.
In the eventful race today, Jarno finished 5th
gaining 2pts . Despite having to change to the T-car after clutch problems on
his race car during the installation lap, Jarno once again made a good start, moving up to 4th place
immediately, and continued to run well on a one stop strategy. Heavy rain
towards the end of the race saw HHF change to intermediate tyres and Jarno to wets. As the track dried
out Jarno
began to struggle on those tyres, and with oversteer and clutch problems, but
maintained 5th place to the end. HHF was forced to retire towards the end with an engine misfire. During the course of the race, Barrichello took himself out
after climbing all over R.Schumacher’s car. M. Schumacher was overtaken by Montoya in the first few laps, but
Montoya was hit from the back by Verstappen which finished the
race for both of them. After Montoya’s demise, DC and MS contested the lead for most of the race, DC overtaking MS in a crucial move. On
different strategies, it was late in the race that DC finally took control and
pushed on to the finish. MS was second, followed by Heidfeld, Panis, Jarno and Fisichella.

“I am happy to
have finished in the points today in what was quite a difficult race for me. I
had a very good
start and made
it up to fourth position at the first corner. I was able to pull away well but
about 10 laps before
the first pit
stop I started to have problems with the clutch and couldn’t get the same
performance from the car
as in the
beginning so I struggled a lot. Unfortunately I came in to pit just one lap
before the rain, so I had to
come in again
on the next lap for wets, which were my choice. It’s a shame that I lost time
in both pit stops,
the first
because the refuelling rig jammed, and the second because Heinz was ahead of
me. The car had
oversteer as
we didn’t change the front wing adjustment so I struggled from then until the
end of the race”.
Eddie Jordan, Chief
Executive
”This was our
third race out of three in which we finished in the points which is very
encouraging.
Unfortunately
however, from looking so good 10 laps from the end the final result was not as
we’d hoped. It
was good for Jarno to get his
first points but very disappointing for Heinz who had the
podium in his sights.
We will be
working hard with Honda to rectify today’s problem, and look forward to getting
on the podium
together in
Europe.”
“I am very
disappointed because we should have had our first podium finish today. I am
sorry for Heinz-Harald
and we will
make sure that we have a counter measure in place by Imola for the engine
misfire problem which
ended his
race. Jarno Trulli was unlucky because he fought
really hard today, unfortunately the strategy didn’t
work out for
him.”
