F1 Racing
January’s
issue of F1 Racing magazine carries an article about Jarno on page 86. It is a
Q&A session with some interesting comments about the EJ11 and Jarno’s
apparent reputation for being a good qualifier but not a good racer.

FIA Backs Down On Numbers
7th December 2001:
Well,
that didn’t last long! After complaints from some of the teams, particularly Sauber,
the FIA announced they have changed their minds about the drivers numbers for
2002 and will revert to the system used for the last few years where teams will
adopt their numbers according to where they finished in the CC. Consequently,
Jarno will now be driver 14 after all, and Jenson will be 15. (There is no
number 13 for superstitious reasons.) The full list:
01. Michael Schumacher (Ferrari)
02. Rubens Barrichello (Ferrari)

2002 Drivers Numbers
3rd December
2001: According to the FIA Entry list for 2002, Jarno will be driver
No. 7 and team mate Jenson Button will be No. 8 next year. If numbering had
followed recent years, Jarno would have been driver 14. However, for 2002, F1
has reverted to the traditional method of numbering when teams kept their
driver numbers from year to year and only changed if their driver was WDC when
he assumed the number one and his team mate became number two. As Benetton
carried the numbers 7 and 8 in 2001, they will continue to do so when they are
Renault in 2002. The order of the garages in the pitlane will keep the order
the teams finished in the Constructors Championship.
